Watchung, NJ Sign - Home of Bobby Thomson of the NY Giants

Watchung’s favorite major league baseball player. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on October 25, 1923, he moved to Staten Island, NY when he was 2 and a half. In 1958 he moved to Watchung, his home for 48 years. On October 3, 1951, Bobby hit the home run in the bottom of the ninth inning in the third and final playoff game against the Brooklyn Dodgers, facing pitcher Ralph Branca at the Polo Grounds in New York and winning the NY Giants the National League pennant. This was forever known as the "Shot heard ’round the world"

Thanks for stopping by. This is sort of funny, I can walk to this in about two minutes. I see you're in Scotch Plains and recognize much of the areas in your shots. We lived in Fanwood from 89-98...
